Mixed Media Artist

LOVEBIRDS AND FLOWERS / DECO ART DEMO

I used this painting to do a short demo of the acrylic paint that Deco Art sent me. I don’t use acrylic paints in tubes very often so this was a little out of my comfort zone. I really do love my acrylic inks but sometime I wonder if they are a bit of a crutch. So maybe this was a nice little push for me to experiment. I did end up reverting back to my inks but I AM a mixed media artist so playing with a variety of mediums within one piece is not unusual. In fact, I ended up adding some encaustics to the final piece (not shown in video) because I felt the painting just need something more. All in all though, I am happy with the results.

So Deco Art sent me my primary colours, Red, blue and yellow, and a tube of black and white. They also sent my an extender, a matt medium and some varnish.

I have to say, I thought the coverage was pretty good. It is really hard to get a yellow to have much coverage at all but this one was not bad, and I loved the actual hue. This goes for the red they sent me too, that was a beautiful colour. Absolutely gorgous red orange.

I also like the way they dried, nice and matt, not shiny.

The acrylic medium was great, as good as liquidtex or Golden, which is what i usually use.

The extender …. nope… I just don’t like extenders I think. I am too impatient. I want stuff to dry faster, not slower. It isn’t anything against this brand, I just don’t think extenders are for me.

The only thing I would say that I didn’t like was the tubes of paint are difficult to open and the paint kind of squirted open when you did finally manage to open them. My daughter, Scarlett, had the same problem when she tried them. I often squeeze my paint into jars because I really hate tubes so this remedy this but we did end up wasting paint.

NOOOOO! I HATE WASTING PAINT! HA HA!

This was a nice little push for me to experiment with traditional acrylic paint but I did end up reverting back to my inks half way through. I AM a mixed media artist so playing with a variety of mediums within one piece is not unusual for me, in fact, I ended up adding some encaustics to the final piece (not shown in video) because I felt the painting just need something more. All in all I am happy with how this piece turned out.

AND that is my little review.

Thank you Deco Art!
